The oldest church in Naperville, Wesley United Methodist Church was founded as a circuit church in 1832. In the early days of the Methodist Church in America, partcularly in frontier areas like Naperville, one pastor would be assigned to a "circuit"- a set of churches that he served by riding between them on horseback.
Parents organized and sponsored such youth groups as Queen Esthers, King's Heralds, and Little Standard Bearers. At one point, Wesley even had its own Sunday School Orchestra.
In 1897 a new, larger building was constructed to accomodate the growing congregation. We had a fire years ago, which prompted more construction and remodeling. Eventually, it all led up to the beautiful worship space we have today. We've added state-of-the-art sound, projection, digital video and music, and a beautiful Atrium space. But the founders' vision of a vibrant servant church, for Naperville and the world, has never changed.
